Cameos

Breakfast is more bitter when you're toasting with a light,

smoke another cigarette and think about the night.

the beers were chased with whiskey shots,

the wine was chased with rum

and fool a fool to thinking that he's gonna have some fun.

How the time it seemed to fly on by, when we all shared drink and song,

but fewer than there used to be know how to sing along.

The friendship there was never spared,

but I stumble home alone.

I sit in stare in such despair at a wholly silent phone.

 -

In every time I've smiled, straining through the pain

the happiness is fleeting, like cameos in the rain.

-

I go about the daily chores, put away the frown,

Kris would say in such a way 'Sunday Morning Coming Down'.

But the sun its still out shining

and the birds chirp free and proud,

I have my dog beside me and there's beauty all around.

I've put away the cigarettes and learned to see to see.

I've put away the whiskey shots and really learned to be.

And just when I least expect you

you found me where I hide.

You've brought light out to my shadows when you stepped out to my side.

-

In every time I've smiled, straining through the pain

you come and sit beside me, like shelter from the rain.

-

The hills seem so much smaller now, hiking them with you

solo songs more somber now that I've heard them sung with two.

And every day is a note we play

in a song we write together.

In a single night, I'm lost in time and I wish it'd be forever.

Will this stand the test of time or slowly fade away?

Will I falter in my love for you or lose the words to say?

I don't know what's next for us,

but I believe in you and me.

The sun is shining with us and I'm finally feeling free.

--

In every time we're crying, like all our days are done.

the sadness there is fleeting, like cameos in the sun.

the sadness there is fleeting, like cameos in the sun.
