The Story of Opportunity

There he stood,
the Cliff of Opportunity,
thinking he should jump,
to be who he wants to be.

Living like a bang,
leaving like a whimper now.
Proving he's not talk,
proving that he knows just how.

So, he packed the truck and he went away.
Moving towards his future,
making his great getaway.
He burned the bridge, ran from the flame.
Hiding all his matches,
wishing he could hide the shame.
But it lives with him
like it lives with you and me.
No matter what we do
we'll be just what we'll be.

There he sits,
the Land of Opportunity,
proud that he jumped
living like he wants to be.

Meeting all the folks
living like a bang again,
but he has no one
truly he would call a friend.

But he held his ground and stayed his hand,
fighting towards his future,
wishing it had gone to plan.
And he worked as hard as he thought he could,
smiling through the sadness,
doing what he thought he should.
But it lives with him
like it lives with you and me.
No matter what we do
we'll be just what we'll be.

There he lies,
the goal of Opportunity,
teaching how he jumped,
telling of the sights he's seen.

A life he filled with friends,
but one that he wished was there.
He wished near every day,
to see her with her shinning hair.

So he packed the truck and he went away,
returning to his past,
fighting for the words to say.
He'd find the words and what to do,
he'd tell her that he loved her,
wishing he had thought things through;
That it lives with him
like it lives with you and me.
No matter what he does
he'll be just what he'll be.

There they stood,
the River of Opportunity,
wishing there's a way
to cross over the raging stream.

He saw her standing there
wishing she could hear him shout
though he tried to reach her
he realized that the bridge was out.
